Sacha Baron Cohen in Bruno – International Trailer

May 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Sacha Baron Cohen is one of those actor-comedians you either get or you don’t. Well, maybe that’s too cut and dried for him, because there were some parts of "Borat" that I thought were hysterically funny (two naked guys fighting in a hotel hallway, anyone?), but there were also parts of that movie that didn’t really strike me as funny. And maybe they’re not supposed to.

Anyway, he’s back in "Bruno," playing a flamboyant Austrian fashionista who comes to America and shakes things up. Frequent collaborator Larry Charles is directing. It’s rated R and opens in U.S. theaters July 10, 2009. See what you think of the trailer (thanks to MTV for the embed code)!

Michael Moore’s next documentary due in theaters Oct. 2, 2009

May 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Master of the documentary Michael Moore has another one due out Oct. 2, 2009.

It doesn’t have a title yet, but distributors Overture and Paramount Vantage said it’s about the collapse of the world economy. I’m sure Moore will sink his teeth into that one!

The film will delve into the "root causes of the economic meltdown," as well as the "corporate and political shenanigans" that resulted in the financial crisis.

In a statement, Moore said, "The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn’t have enough wealth. So they systematically set out to fleece the American people."

Moore’s most recent doc was 2007’s "Sicko," an expose on health care. Any Michael Moore fans out there? Whatever is in his films, I appreciate the effort he’s put into founding and maintaining the Traverse City Film Festival (my home town!).

America Olivo takes it off for Playboy cover

May 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

I had the pleasure of interviewing the "Bitch Slap" girls last year, and they were a blast to talk to. Check out the movie’s trailer here.

America Olivo, who plays Camero in the movie, is currently gracing the June issue of Playboy magazine – as well as a 6-page nude pictorial inside the mag. The girl is definitely hot – in more ways than one! She’s got four movies out in 2009, including the "Friday the 13th" remake, "Bitch Slap," "Neighbor," and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

"Bitch Slap" features the longest girl-fight in cinema history. Olivo says she had to do "blatant lesbian scenes on a trapeze, in which I’m making out, kissing this girl between the legs and riding her so intensely I was more sore than a mofo.

Penelope Cruz at the Broken Embraces premiere in Cannes

May 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Every time I see Penelope Cruz, she just gets more and more beautiful. And her dress in the photo is stunning.

It’s a pic of her, along with Pedro Almodovar and Blanco Portillo, at the premiere of their film “Broken Embraces” at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.

The story follows a man who loses both his sight and lover in a car accident. It hits U.S. theaters in limited release on Nov. 20, 2009.

Terminator Salvation Videos: Moon Bloodgood, Christian Bale, and Animatronics

May 20, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

“Terminator Salvation” hits theaters Thursday, May 21, 2009 (today!). And it’s definitely one of the most anticipated movies of 2009. HitFix.com has a bunch of cool videos of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff. I’ve included a few below. I always expect Christian Bale to haul off and hit someone. That’s bad typecasting on my part, but you’ve gotta admit, he does seem pretty intense. Are you super-psyched for this movie?

Chase Crawford in for Footloose

May 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Chace Crawford just got one degree closer to Kevin Bacon. The “Gossip Girl” star is set to take the lead in Paramount’s “Footloose” revamp.

For a while there, it looked like Zac Efron would be putting his dancing shoes (back) on for the role, but now it’s official. Crawford is in. They actually kind of look a little bit alike, don’t they? I’m sure Crawford will do a fine job.

Hayden Panettiere is rumored to star in the movie, as well. Kenny Ortega, who helmed the “High School Musical” movies, will direct and produce “Footloose,” scheduled for a 2010 release.

Think Crawford will do a good job? I’ve never actually seen him dance, but he must have some pretty awesome skills to be cast in “Footloose.” Anyone know if he’s a hoofer?

Olivia Dawn York talks about making Elsewhere and working with Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico

May 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Several actors from diverse backgrounds have come together to make the crime thriller, “Elsewhere,” which will be released on DVD June 2, 2009. Olivia Dawn York (pictured) co-stars in the film, along with Anna Kendrick (“Twilight”), Paul Wesley (“Army Wives”), and Tania Raymonde (“Lost”). It’s directed by Nathan Hope.

Kendrick and Raymonde play two girls trying to break free of their small town lives, but one goes missing after trying to connect with someone on the Internet, leaving only a journal and a cryptic video message sent from her cell phone. The story delves into the town’s corrupt police force and string of unsolved child abductions.

Says York of her role in the film, “I think the most exciting moment in shooting ‘Elsewhere’ besides landing the role, was when I learned my character’s father was going to be played by Jon Gries. Even though he is known for so many great projects, I was a ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ fanatic! When I found out I would be working with ‘Uncle Rico’ it was the first day on location in Indiana, and I had to call my dad and sister to tell them who I was working with! The whole thing was a great experience.”

I loved “Napoleon Dynamite,” too, and would be totally star-struck to be working with Uncle Rico (I can’t get those football-throwing scenes out of my head!). I’ll look forward to seeing “Elsewhere” when it hits DVD, and seeing York’s future projects. Next up for her is “Low Ground: The Portal,” a fantasy thriller directed by Omar Kaczmarczyk

Away We Go – Preview, Trailer & Images

May 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

"Away We Go" sounds like one of those dramatic, funny, quirky (drafirky?) movies along the lines of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." They’re both from Focus Features, so there’s a good chance they might have the same feeling to them.

Directed by Sam Mendes (coming off his "Revolutionary Road" success), "Away We Go" stars John Krasinski ("The Office") and Maya Rudolph ("Saturday Night Live") as Burt and Verona. The couple plan to raise their soon-to-be-born child next door to Burt’s parents (Jeff Daniels and Catherine O’Hara), who have something else in mind. Lke moving to Belgium.

So Burt and Verona hit the road in search of the perfect home for their growing family, visiting friends and relatives along the way.

"Away We Go" is rated R for language and some sexual content. It hits theaters in limited release June 5, 2009.

After the jump, more pics and the trailer for "Away We Go"…

First Look - The Twilight Saga: New Moon

May 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Here’s a first look at the new teaser poster from "New Moon" (known officially as "The Twilight Saga: New Moon.") Cool to finally see an image from the movie I’ve been blogging about for months! I love the dark, hazy background and, of course, Bella and Jacob, with Edward sort of on the outside looking in.

This second installment of the series, based on Stephenie Meyer’s popular books, finds Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) completely devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).

To fill the void, she turns to Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), who draws her into his world of werewolves. Bella finds her loyalties tested, as werewolves are long-standing enemies of the vampires.

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" hits theaters Nov. 20, 2009. Like the poster? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
