Thanks to Matt from Paramount, I have two soundtracks from Brad Pitt’s movie "Babel" to give away! This contest is extra special because the soundtrack hasn’t even been released yet (it will be released November 21)! PLUS it’s going to be a signed copy by Brad Pitt himself!
Here’s some information on the soundtrack:
On this expanded, double-disc collection, the South American composer’s culture-bending film cues (including mastery of indigenous Arab stringed instruments and incorporating field recordings of Moroccan tribal music) also serve as artistic axes, reflective anchor points for a pop collection that’s as ambitious and far-ranging as the film itself. While the "music from and inspired by" tag often indicates cynical record company marketing schemes, here it’s an invitation to transcultural musical adventure that links Santaolalla’s North African musical conjuring with the contemporary styles of Japan (the atmospherics of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Susumu Yolota, Shinichi Osawa’s sly Earth, Wind & Fire/Fatboy Slim mashup, the teen pop of Takashi Fujii’s "Oh My Juliet") and Tijuana (a generous sampling of effusive Norteño that includes Los Incomparables, Daniel Luna, and Agua Caliente). Speaking of Brad … did you know that he beat out George Clooney for the role in Thelma and Louise? Brad’s big break at the cost of George.
Also … lots of new Tristans came about after Legend of the Fall. They could have at least used the real version, Tristram!

I’ve seen Babel twice and I can honestly say its been years since a movie has had such an affect on me. Its a gorgeous film set in Morocco, Japan and Mexico and concentrates on the miscommunication within relationships, whether it be between spouses, parents and children, or between countries. After each viewing I walked away with the desire to listen more to those around me, to try to better understand people who don’t look like me, who speak a language different than my own and to be conscious that the choices I make for better or worse affect others. I highly recommend Babel and I hope it is recognized during Oscar time - Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt), Best Supporting Actress (Rinko Kikuchi) (Adriana Barraza).

BABEL is truly a great movie. Like Faye, I’ve seen it twice and I still cannot believe how great all the cast/producers/ and the director conveyed all of the stories.

I have not seem Babel yet. Hope to see it this weekend. But I am glad there is an Oscar buzz about his performance. I actually felt he deserve an Oscar nom for Fight Club.

I’m still wondering how the Asian portion ties in to the film. None of the previews I’ve seen give any hints as to the connection.
Iac: he definitely did deserve an Oscar for Fight Club! I love that movie. One of the few movies that I can actually watch over and over again…

I just saw Babel a few days ago and I was not disappointed. One of my boys is deaf and his teenage years were full of angst, such as the young Japanese teenager portrayed by Rinko Kikuchi. The interconnectedness of all people, regardless of language barriers, is wonderfully explored in this movie. Brad Pitt does a notable job in portraying fear, frustration and panic. Now, please send me the soundtrack!

I libe in UK and havent yet seen Babel, just the trailers and some clips on |Youtube, but i can hardly wait to see it.I am Romanian born and one of our greatest poems (and my favourite) goes:” I am a bedoiun’s son, pacha,//And i come from Babel-Mandeb…”.My nickname on Yahoo is, also, Babel-Mandeb…so imagine when a favourite verse, a favourite actor and a much expected film merge toghether…It’s like a Sign for me…A sign that Brad will finally get the Oscar-I heard even his co-star, Cate Blanchet, describes his performance as “riveting”…And the spoilers I read only made me want to see this indie flick even more.

I just have to say that Brad is finally doing a lot to dispell the myth of celebrity narcissism He (and Angie) seem like one of a few of the remaining humanitarian’s left in Hollywood. Or at least they seem like the real deal and are actively getting involved in helping those who are less fortunate.

I am a fan of both Brad & Angelina. I’ve seen babel & planning to see it again. I would love to get hold of the Bbael Soundtrack. Great addition to my Brangelina collection.

I have been reading the Oscar buzz around Babel and can’t wait to see it. My real love though is soundtracks. I don’t know why I have such a large collection, but I love the sweeping entries, the compilations, the scores… all of it. If I win this though I will give it to our local NPR station classical director (KUAF) because she does a Film Score Friday show and this would be a GREAT addition!

Hmmm…babble about Brad Pitt? Or about Babel? I’m looking forward to seeing the movie. If I win the soundtrack, I’ll have to share custody of it with my daughter, I’m sure! I love movie soundtracks - it’s the only kind of music I can write to. Anything else, and I start to sing along… can’t type and sing at the same time, for some reason.

I just went to see the movie day before yesterday in Holland, in one word awesome! I could fit myself in everybody’s position, the way all actors acted was realistic, personal and very moving!! Quite some acting, also from the formerly less known actors! A very, very intense film, with music that moved me during the whole film! Actually at the end, in the cinema, when my girlfriend went to the bathroom, I went back to listen to the music. Really, really… impossible to put in words after the film! Lots of people couldn’t even get their behind away from the screen. Could talk about this movie for ages already, but anyway it’ll be a long time before it comes out on DVD. But the soundtrack will be released in a few days, so I’ll buy it anyway. My girlfriend would freak tho, whe she’d see Brad Pitt’s scribble (me too). Good luck to the one who get’s it eh! Bye all!

i love world music. i would love to see the whole world so i could absorb different cultures just through music….EVERYTHING is heightened because of it.
Have you ever noticed that Brad Pitt even looks a little better when you play music. Personally, I think he looks great any old time (except for that bushy beard thing…what was he thinking???) but he is absolutely divine looking when I am listening to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

Brad has come into his own in his personal life and this maturity is bound to be reflected in his movies. Babel will probably be his best. He has always “gone his own way”. It was just not at obvious until he joined forces with Angelina.

Great flick, lots of underlying psychology linking the story threads. My only beef is the telegraphing of the links between the plots. Was anyone really surprised to find out who’s kids they were? or the link to the gun? gimmie a break. Everything else was stunning though.

…to me the fear of the loss of family portrayed in Mexico and the physical pain and anquish of Pitt & his wife in Morroco were contrasted by the sexuality of the young girl in Japan. Weren’t you wishing the plot would just return to the young girl? Wasn’t her sexuality a welcome relief from the struggles elsewhere? Wasn’t the young girl’s turn to sex drivin by her struggles too? I found it facinating that a movie could elicit those basic feelings/instincts in me. I enjoyed the movie even more on the way home!

i agree truly worth seeing, you can`t stop thinking about it, don`t you think that it shows two parts of the world, people who are always loosers (e.g.Morroco), and those who win as usual - from western world…

I’ve been following this film on and off since it was in the making, but didn’t get to see it till just today. I heard several opinions from people who did see the film before, and all of them thought Chieko’s storyline was disappointing. Yet, I found her story the most moving. She was the one person who really carried the film’s major theme. The score that played over her scene in the end was beautiful, and the cover art for the soundtrack is just heartbreaking.

i saw Babel yesterday. although not perfect, the film was definitely rewarding. but i was simply blown away by the music.

I watched the movie a few days ago. It was the best movie that effected me that deeply. Its like i felt the desperation that they are feeling. In the theater i couldn’t even breath. All of the actors played really good especially Brad Pitt The music take you in the movie, you feel their sorrows and pains from it.

Wow - I just saw the trailer, after link-hopping and finding this site. It looks really heavy. Then looking at the tracklist for the soundtrack, it’s an interesting mix of things. Earth Wind and Fire remixed with a Fatboy Slim song? Then the intense cinematic music with Nortec Collective? Wow - I really want to see this movie now, to see how it all works!

Babel was very well executed. It really does display the struggles of language barriers between everyone on Earth. It also proves that American’s won’t be having their way with making American English the language of the world. It just won’t happen. The addition of a deaf-mute to the movie really turned out to be quite interesting in the end. Her whole situation in the movie is what a whole lot of people have to go through in their lives by being actual living deaf-mutes. Now, there’s also the portrayal of major stereotypes in this movie, especially with the terrorists and the tourists. The French tourists don’t want to stay because the “terrorists” shot at them, but they want to leave behind this wounded woman which honestly portrays the whole Freedom vs. French ideal again. Us Americans as in USA citizens don’t understand border crossing as well as we should. Those stuck up guards at the border do portray a true to this day stereotype of dirty Mexicans. It’s just sad that it still exists, but it’s honestly true. Also, the stereotype of Asian women is shown when the Asian girls talk about sex in the locker room.
Overall this was the best movie I saw this entire year. This was the best movie I’ve seen since Big Fish.
