“Becoming Jane,” a beautiful period movie starring Anne Hathaway as Jane Austen, was released on DVD this week.

I’m a film production student at Arizona Sate University and i’m currently in my senior year. I’d love to have a copy… period films are my favorite. Plus, I LOVE Hathaway!

The actors in this film made it eminently watchable for me. However, the story line-even though heart-breaking-is a bit of modernizing wishful thinking . . . But boy do I love the actors-and the scenery, the costumes, and even the music!

I REALLY wanted to see this! I have all her literary works and several of her film adaptations. I didn’t go when it was in theaters because my husband was deployed and for some reason really wanted to see it too, lol, so I am waiting til he is home this summer. Cool prise!

Becoming Jane.
I fell in love with the very name. Until I saw a promo for this film I’m not sure I’d really thought about this. The story behind the stories… Sure, I knew that we write best when we write about what we know. And I knew our lives shape us. But somehow this hit me with a clarity when I’d watch the Becoming Jane promos.
Now, knowing something about Jane’s life, having now read about her right here and looking up her bio, I think I see where the Dashwood sister’s came from. And where some of the others come from. (And I so realize that I have to re-view or read Pride And Prejudice.)
I haven’t seen it yet. I immediately wanted to see the story and I love the big screen, but the DVD player has changed the way I appreciate a great film. Instead of turning to the person I’m with and asking “what did she say?” or “was that the person we saw…” I can immediately replay the scene. (Now it can take me and a friend an extra hour to watch a movie — and I love it that way.) I’m sure Becoming Jane will be one of those stories.
We all have stories in us. I know I do. I’m looking forward to see how Jane’s life helped shape her stories. (And I’m still looking forward to seeing how my own life shapes mine. But that’s another story….)
I love that you’ve done this, Jane. I like that it got me to take a break from my Mac work to think about great literature and a film I was excited to learn had been produced. Thank you for that.

I just read your review and watched the trailer for Becoming Jane. I absolutely adore Ms. Austen’s work. I love both the BBC and Keira Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice. Becoming Jane looks like my next “guilty pleasure” movie. I can’t wait to see it.

I am obsessed with Jane Austen and this was one of my favorite movies that I have ever seen. I made my friends come with me and I converted most of them into Jane-lovers as well. I am in college and I don’t have a car so it would be great if I could win one of the dvds so i wouldn’t have to find a ride or take a bus to get the movie.
