14 Submit for Animation Oscar

I haven’t seen all of these movies yet (because they haven’t all been released), but I’m loving the 14 movies submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the best animated feature category. Only three films will be selected.
The Contenders: “Bolt,” “Delgo,” “Dragon Hunters,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Igor,” “Kung […]

"W." the Musical … Wait, What?

Ok, I don’t think of the Iraq war as particularly hilarious, but apparently, Lionsgate does. It’s pushing “W.” in the comedy/musical category at this year’s Golden Globes.
It’s not the first for weird movie categories. Others include “The Mask of Zorro,” “Pride and Prejudice,” and “The Squid and the Whale.” Yeah, all those were laugh-out-loud […]

Anna Faris - Rising Star

Anna Faris was the best thing about “The House Bunny,” and now she’s getting some recognition. Faris is being honored with the Rising Star Tribute from the Bahamas International Film Festival, Dec. 4 - 11 in Nassau, Bahamas. Hmmm, I’m thinking that would be a great one to attend at that time of […]

Paul Newman: The Passing of a Legend - VIDEO

Not many actors reach legendary status, but Paul Newman definitely falls into that category. The world lost a true actor, humanitarian, race car driver, popcorn/salad dressing impresario, and all-around good guy when Newman died yesterday at his farmhouse in Westport, Connecticut after a long battle with cancer. He was 83.
In May 2007, Newman […]

Ricky Gervais to Host the Oscars?

var iamInit = function() {try{initIamServingHandler(234,344,137047,”http://pis.picapp.com/IamProd/Resources/Css/css2.css”)}catch(ex){}}()
Rumors were flying fast and furious today that Ricky Gervais would be hosting the Oscars. I’d go for that! But the truth is that no decisions have been made yet.
“We haven’t made one single phone call,” Larry Mark, who was announced yesterday as a coproducer of the 81st Annual […]

Tommy Lee Jones Sues Paramount

In last year’s No Country for Old Men, Tommy Lee Jones played a sheriff chasing after a man who was chasing after some money. Well, apparently, now Jones is chasing after some money — specifically, from Paramount Pictures.
It turns out that the contract between Jones, Paramount and its subsidiary, N.M. Classics, Inc. […]

"Captain Abu Raed" Joins Oscar Race

I’ve been a big fan of Captain Abu Raed ever since I first watched the film and talked with director Amin Matalqa. It’s the touching story of an airport janitor who’s mistaken for an airline pilot by a group of kids living in his neighborhood. As he begins to weave fantastic stories for the […]

SAG Talks Continue

Members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) met at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City today. Leaders had one message for them: we’re still negotiating.
Hmmm, what’s it all mean? I just hope they can work things out before it comes down to another situation like the writer’s strike last winter. I think […]

MTV Movie Awards: I’m Just Not Sure

Anyone watch the MTV Movie Awards last night? I did, but can’t say I was all that impressed. I don’t really view them as “real” awards, for some reason. It seems like just another way for stars to dress up and be seen. I mean, an award for “Best Summer Movie So Far”? It […]
