Celebrities seem to be of the opinion that their fame allows them to broadcast their own personal political views to pretty much anyone within ear shot of a media source. And they’re absolutely right.
Perpetual loud mouth Madonna has yet again started publically slagging President George W. Bush, though she’s at least laid off the war in Iraq and has moved on to newer protest projects close to home. Apparently the Material Girl is rather unhappy with Dubya’s handling of the Hurricane Katrina situation down south (join the club), and is using the fiasco as another potential nail in the presidential coffin. She says that although 9/11 and the Iraqi situation have been pushed aside as inconclusive evidence of his incompetence, Katrina was about as out in the open as neglegence can get. Is this new?
Gary Sinise isn’t just flapping his gums, but actually putting some money where his mouth is, founding Operation Iraqi Children. The children’s charity sends school supplies such as pencils, paper and books to the war torn country, which Sinise recently visited and was horrified by the appalling educational conditions.
On the tragic side of politics, Hollywood has lost the executive producer of the Halloween series of horror movies, also known for his direction of . Moustapha Akkad, a Syrian-born American nationalist, was attending a wedding in Jordan when a bomb blast ripped through the hotel he and his family were staying at on Wednesday. Syria has awarded him its top civilian medal in recognition of his “Arab nationalist stances” and his funeral was attended by many. Akkad’s daughter, with him at the hotel, was also killed.
