"Dragonball: Evolution" - Trailer
Check out the trailer for “Dragonball Evolution.” It’s adapted from the manga created by Akira Toriyama, and was also turned into a Japanese anime series. The story follows an alien sent to destroy Earth, but whom has a change of heart and decides to join the humans in their fight against various aliens and bad guys. Looks like lots of high-action and cool special effects, and Justin Chatwin makes a great Goku. Also stars Emmy Rossum, James Marsters, and Ernie Hudson.
I wonder if this movie will have a big enough following to attract audiences. It seems like the folks familiar with the manga and anime series will love it, but not sure about everyone else. I could be dead wrong on that. Thoughts?

And honestly, Jane - most of us fans of the Dragon Ball anime are nervous about the translation to live action.
My first reaction when I heard they were doing this was to shake my head in disbelief. Nothing I’ve seen so far has changed my mind.

Jane, I believe you present a good theory when you say that manga fans are probably going to be this movie’s main audience. I can see perhaps the action movie or science fiction fans seeing this as well, but I think in the end, the manga fans are going to be greatly (and I say “greatly” quite emphatically) disappointed with the turnout, and I don’t see this doing well at all with dvd or blue-ray sales in the future.
They can blame that on a shockingly inaccurate translation from the original story to the live action, and the content of the original story itself.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys. Yeah, I wondered about the live-action thing, too. Plus, I guess it was filmed mainly in an abandoned factory in Mexico with blue and green screens, so…not sure about that.
