Gary’s Rumor Mill: Beckham, Bond, and Scully
Gary’s a little more in-tune with the unsubstantiated claims that fly around film studios like little laden mosquitos, so I sent him out to dig up a few good tidbits for you. Here’s what he had to report:
- Back With Beckham - director Gurinder Chadha is looking to make a sequel to her hit 2003 movie Bend It Like Beckham. She’s even managed to sign Keira Knightley and Parminder Nagra back into their roles as female soccer players aiming for the big leagues.(_)
- Jolie As A Bond Girl? - Don’t get all your knickers in a twist ladies and gents, it’s just a possibility. Apparently wild child turned super mom has had a peek at the Casino Royale script and would take the female lead opposite Daniel Craig…if the Bond girl were badder. Apparently she wants a role that involves more than just looking pretty. [Says Gary: She’s obviously confused as to what a Bond girl is.](_)
- X-Files Re-Opening? - X-Files: Fight the Future director Rob Bowman says that another film is in the works, featuring a stand alone plot [so that people who had no clue what the heck was going on the last two seasons] can jump right in and enjoy. The movie would pretty much be trying to break into a non-indoctrinated audience, after all it has been more than a decade since the show broke on the scene and became wildly popular. I think any efforst will have to depend on whether Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are wiling and available. Can you imagine anyone else in the lead roles? There would be riots.(_)

It has been a decade since x-Files ended ? Err, I think not. It started in 1993 and lasted 9 years :)
I vote for Mulder to be replaced by Agent Reyes myself. When they mention new audiences getting to see great chemistry between Anderson and Duchovny, though, I get scared!

I’m not seeing Jolie as a Bond girl, but I guess if Halle Barry can pull it off Jolie could as well.

Oh my! Sorry Karine, there were two versions of that sentence, one pointing out when the show started, and one when it ended…they ended up getting mashed together some how. I’ve fixed it, thanks for saving my factoid bacon there.
I stopped watching the X-Files after season….six I think. It warped from a cool show about the paranormal into an alien invasion thing, which I’m not interested in. It lost some of the story diversity, which is what made me tune in every week.
Christian, I’m sure there are members of the public (not me..uh…no) who get all tingly just thinking of Jolie unleashing her seductive powers in the unsubtle style demanded by Bond movies. That said, I would prefer if they took a complete no-name and parked her in the role. It would be a great start for someone. Perhaps the studio feels that they need someone with Jolie’s popularity to get bums in the seats and offset any “They picked Daniel Craig as Bond, I’m not going to see it” attitudes.

Yeah, even as much as I love the X-Files and Gillian Anderson in it, I pretty much stopped watching after season 6 too. To the point where even now I’ve no idea what exactly is supposed to have happened - and ‘The Truth’ certainly didn’t enlighten me.
Of the later seasons, I remember how painful season 9 was to watch (I mean, all Scully does is cry. Cry!!!) and what an absolute mess they made of Reyes’ character, which at least when it was first introduced, had real potential, reminiscent of Mulder and Scully’s relationship of earlier seasons. Oh and CC killing off the Lone Gunmen. Bastard.

Scully does not cry! She’s Scully! She should be rampaging through injustice and prodding dead bodies damnit! Remind me never to watch season 9, it’ll completely ruin my opinion of her.

My point, exactly. The scars that season 9 leaves are not easily healed.
