Gilligan

by Erin Harvey on October 3rd, 2005

Some things are just wrong. Wrong and so not right that they’re beyond wrong.

This makes me feel like people down in California are simply hovering of the deathbeds of the elderly and ill so that the very second that their last breath sighs from between their lips their lives go up to public auction. You can practically hear the legacy milkers salivating in the hallway, with their exclusive rights contracts clutched greedily in their clamy palms.

But not Gilligan. No. Why couldn’t they let Gilligan rest in well-deserved peace and heaven forbid a little sanctity? Bob Denver was a cultural icon that should have shone untouched in his comedic glory, as a testament to the man and his acting skills. He should not have to suffer the indignity of some (likely well meaning) actor coming along and deciding that either in tribute, or in image appropriation, to bring Gilligan back to the screen. Maybe in a year, maybe in five, but the poor man only passed away September 6th. Now is not the time, Mr. Adam Sandler, to try to inflate your flagging career with someone else’s mojo.

For shame!
