Guy Ritchie Thinks He Has a Winner!

by Erin Harvey on October 5th, 2005

Madonna’s British director husband figures that this time, after a couple of astoundingly bad flops, he’s got the film that will resurrect his reputation with the rest of the film industry.

After casting his wife in Swept Away — where she played an arrogant rich-b*tch who was never satisfied by anything that wealth could buy, but suddenly found herself stranded on a desert island with one of the common sailors — Ritchie next unveiled Revolver, a gambling + mafia fiasco that was soundly panned by critics. His popularity is also at a low with the public, after he and Madonna ignored fans waiting patiently for autographs at the London premiere of Revolver.

Needless to say Mr. Material Girl needs a career pick-me-up. His oh-so-clever idea? Why not make a comedy out of the 16th century Great Siege of Malta? Gee, seems like Guy finally has film-making figured out. He’s taken two hot tickets at the moment: historical epics and off-beat comedies, and mashed them into one movie. I am choking back all kinds of sarcastic remarks here…and I wish I could say that I was fibbing, but it’s true.
