Lionsgate, Marvel Strike Deal with WGA

by Jane Boursaw on January 24th, 2008

USA Today reports that Lionsgate and Marvel studios have signed interim deals with the striking Writers Guild of America.

The agreements follow guild pacts with other independent production companies such as United Artists, The Weinstein Co., and David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants.

A spokesman for the guild says such agreements confirm it’s possible for writers to be compensated fairly and for companies to operate profitably. As a side note, it’s clear that they haven’t been operating profitably during the 11-week-old strike. In fact, the strike has virtually ground the entertainment industry to a halt. Pay the writers!

At any rate, this is all good news for fans of Marvel Studios, whose upcoming film projects include “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk.”

Lionsgate’s new projects include Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo” sequel, “Saw 5,” and “Mad Men,” an original TV series on the AMC network.
