MTV Movie Awards: I’m Just Not Sure
Anyone watch the MTV Movie Awards last night? I did, but can’t say I was all that impressed. I don’t really view them as “real” awards, for some reason. It seems like just another way for stars to dress up and be seen. I mean, an award for “Best Summer Movie So Far”? It just seems a little weird. What about The Incredible Hulk and The X-Files Movie? Don’t they get a shot at it?
The show seemed like one long advertisement for host Mike Myers’ (pictured) upcoming flick, The Love Guru. And some of the skits and presenter schticks…geesh.
Seth Rogen and James Franco pretended to smoke pot before handing out the award for “Best Summer Movie So Far” to Iron Man. I was embarrassed for them, as was Robert Downey, Jr., who picked up the award and said, “Thanks, fellas, for that intoxicating introduction.” I just think the whole thing was in poor taste, especially given Downey’s struggle with addiction.
More after the jump, including pics…
Rainn Wilson presented the Best Kiss Award wearing only a teddy bear. Awkward! He was hawking his upcoming movie, The Rocker, as well as his role as a college professor in Transformers 2. “I just love the idea of me being in a giant Michael Bay movie,” said Wilson. But, really, a teddy bear…?
The highlight for me was seeing Johnny Depp pick up a couple of awards (and does he seem much “younger” these days? I swear, he looks like his 21 Jump Street character).
Anyway, here are the winners:
Best Movie: Transformers
Best Female Performance: Ellen Page, Juno
Best Male Performance: Will Smith, I Am Legend
Best Fight: Sean Faris vs. Cam Gigandet, Never Back Down
Best Summer Movie So Far: Iron Man
Best Comedic Performance: Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Breakthrough Performance: Zac Efron, Hairspray
Best Villain: Johnny Depp, Sweeney Todd
Best Kiss, Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman, Step Up 2 the Streets
