Nicolas Cage Set to "Kick-Ass"

by Jane Boursaw on August 23rd, 2008

If there’s one thing I can say about Nicolas Cage, it’s that he’s certainly had a variety of movie roles.

I’m looking over his IMDB.com page (which is jam-packed with upcoming projects), and he’s played everything from a historian-adventurer (National Treasure) to an alcoholic screenwriter (Leaving Las Vegas) to a retired car thief (Gone in 60 Seconds).

This photo is from a 2009 film called Knowing, in which he plays a teacher who opens a time capsule dug up at his son’s elementary school.

Now he’s set to star in Kick-Ass, Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of the violent Mark Millar comic book. It centers on a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski who decides to become a superhero even though he has no athletic ability or coordination. All that changes when he runs into real bad guys with real weapons.

More after the jump…

Aaron Johnson plays the dweeb, Lyndsy Fonseca plays the object of the teen’s infatuation (who believes he’s gay!), and Cage plays a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter (Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon. Nice.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is also in the cast. You remember him. McLovin in Superbad. That alone is enough to make me see this movie, but it sounds good otherwise, too.
