We’ve got a decidedly non-Christmas-y edition of releases to retail this week, beginning with the possession horror tale The Exorcism of Emily Rose. If watching people thrash and speak in tongues in your idea of a good holiday film, then you’ve truly lucked in this year.

In a similar vein is the hack and slash thriller Cry Wolf, where a troubled boy and his trouble friends get into all kinds of trouble after they spread a rumour about a fake serial killer, and the horrendous crimes actually start happening!

Looking for less blood, but still yearning for some action? Joss Whedon’s brain-child Serenity is now available to own for that sci-fi geek on your Christmas list. It’s not too late to wade through the throng of people at the mall if you head out now.

Comedy fans aren’t left out in the cold either, with Rebound, the story of a tempermental basketball coach who gets relegated to the very little leagues as a result of his temper. Or, if sports don’t do it for you, Must Love Dogs is just the pinch of rom-com cuteness to fill the void. Diane Lane and John Cusack explore the dating scene, and come together with a mutual fondness for man’s best friend.

Also out this past week:

The Brothers Grimm - hardly a fairytale drama, but Heath Ledger and Matt Damon attempt to focus Gillam’s vision.

Four Brothers - a retribution flick about four brothers out to make amends for mommy’s murder.

November - is Courtney Cox paranoid? Or does her character’s boyfriend’s killer still have it in for her…
