Robert Englund Not In New Nightmare?
First of all, I just want to say that I was already not-too-pleased by the news that Platinum Dunes was bringing back the “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise. I absolutely love these films and I really believe they should be left alone. They don’t need to be updated or modernized - leave them exactly as they are. Why is Hollywood on this kick to destroy all of my favorite horror flicks? - “The Fog” was very mediocre, as was “When a Stranger Calls” but “Halloween” was unwatchable! I was crushed and now this!
To add insult to injury, Robert Englund, who has portrayed “Nightmare’s” lead character Freddy Krueger in every film (including the dreadful “Freddy vs. Jason“) will not be included in this new film. Platinum Dunes head honcho Michael Bay wants to take the movies back to square one (I’d just like to say that I’m still angry about Bay’s screen version of “Miami Vice” so forgive me if I don’t trust him). Since I loved last year’s “Transformers” so much, I’ll give this movie a chance but I’m not happy about it.
Besides, don’t we have a “new Nightmare” film already? Oh yeah, it’s called “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare” (1994). Anyone else upset by this bit of casting news?

Englund was what made those movies so original. Freddie wasn’t only terrifying, he was also hysterical. I didn’t think Bay did Chain Saw Massacre justice, so I really doubt he’ll do Nightmare any.

Diana, you basically summed it up. Englund is funny yet scary - how can you beat that??? You’re right about something else too. Bay’s Chainsaw Massacre was… interesting…
