Steve Carell in for "Brigadier Gerard"

by Jane Boursaw on October 16th, 2008

Looks like Steve Carell might have another clueless-man role on his hands. The funny guy’s attached to “Brigadier Gerard,” Media Rights Capital’s period comedy about a French soldier during the Napoleonic wars who’s deluded about his level of bravery.

Yep, that sounds like classic Carell material. I hope he doesn’t get caught up in doing the same types of projects over and over (even if they work!). Then again, I’m not sure I want him doing a drama either, though I liked him in the semi-dramedy “Dan in Real Life.”

The movie is based on a series of short stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Adding comedic oomph is the writing team, John Altshuler and David Krinsky, who pen “King of the Hill”. We love that show in this household.

Carell would play Etienne Gerard, a soldier who considers himself a gallant swordsman, but whose actual skills often pale in comparison to his own conception of them. It’s Michael Scott going back a few hundred years!
