The 66th Annual Golden Globes Awards are now history. Any hits or misses, in your view? I was shocked but happy to see Mickey Rourke win for Best Actor for "The Wrestler." I think he was, too.
And tearful Kate Winslet was charming when she gave her speech for winning Best Actress. Here’s the rundown, with the winners marked with asterisks. And I guess I’d better see "Slumdog Millionaire" before the Oscars!

Golden Globes – Heath Ledger wins for Best Supporting Actor
January 11, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Things got off to an emotional start at the 66th Annual Golden Globes Awards when Heath Ledger won for Best Supporting Dramatic Actor for his role as The Joker in "The Dark Knight."
Maggie Gyllenhaal (pictured) noted on the red carpet that while it’s hard to talk about her friend Ledger, she feels that he’s very deserving of the award.
Presenter Demi Moore presented a brief clip of Ledger’s work in the film and afterwards, "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan accepted Ledger’s posthumous award, doing so with "a mixture of sadness and incredible pride."
Rather than dwelling on the gap left by Ledger’s death, Nolan said he preferred to concentrate on "the incredible place in the history of world cinema he built for himself."

The Golden Globes – Red Carpet Thoughts
January 11, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
The 66th Annual Golden Globes are tonight – 8 p.m. EST on NBC - and everyone looks lovely! It’s fun to see both movie stars and TV stars intermingling on the red carpet. A few thoughts on the red carpet:
Drew Barrymore (pictured) was hand-in-hand with Jessica Lange. They play mother-daughter in an upcoming film, "Grey Gardens." Drew looked so glamorous with her blonde hair and buff bod. She seems like she really has it together these days!
Miley Cyrus talked about getting her mom’s hand-me-down Porsche, but her dad really wants her to get an old Corvette. Also, she didn’t really say much to the Jonas Brothers when they walked by, but Billy Ray talked to them. Oh, and Billy Ray managed to step on her dress at one point. Come on, dad.
America Ferrera talked about the relaxed atmosphere of the Globes, because people are sitting at tables sipping champagne and talking amongst themselves.
I Like the Golden Globes Poster
December 26, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
The poster for the Golden Globes is online, and I have to say it looks pretty cool. And it’s got that “2001: A Space Odyssey” monolith thing going for it, too.
According to a press release from The Hollywood Foreign Press Association Board of Directors, “The vibrant artwork features the world’s most famous golden orb flanked by parallel rows of palm trees that give a sense of the iconic Los Angeles setting for the event recognized worldwide as ‘The Party of the Year.’”
The poster was created by Los Angeles artist Colin McGreal in association with Famous Frames. And the 1300 guests attending the ceremony get one “suitable for framing.” At first I thought, that’s cheap. The least they could do was frame it. But that’s be a lot of frames, and I supposed it could get pretty pricey.
The 66th Annual Golden Globes will take place Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at the Beverly Hilton, with a live telecast airing on NBC at 8 p.m. EST. Visit the official Golden Globes site here.

66th Annual Golden Globes - Nominations and Jane’s Picks!
December 11, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
My son and I have been impatiently waiting to hear whether Heath Ledger got a Golden Globe nomination for his role as The Joker in “The Dark Knight.” Yes! He’s nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
He’s got some pretty good competition, including Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Doubt,” but I’m betting that Ledger will win that award. We’ll know on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, when the 66th Annual Golden Globes Awards will air on NBC at 8 p.m., live from The Beverly Hilton.
After the jump, read the full list of nominations in the movie categories, along with my thoughts and predictions. What are your thoughts? Any major snubs? Let me know in the comments section below!

"W." the Musical … Wait, What?
November 9, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Ok, I don’t think of the Iraq war as particularly hilarious, but apparently, Lionsgate does. It’s pushing “W.” in the comedy/musical category at this year’s Golden Globes.
It’s not the first for weird movie categories. Others include “The Mask of Zorro,” “Pride and Prejudice,” and “The Squid and the Whale.” Yeah, all those were laugh-out-loud funny, weren’t they?
The deadline for entries was a few days ago, and I haven’t heard whether the Hollywood Foreign Press Association went for it. Gee, I wonder how Oliver Stone will defend the category. He’s been doing back-flips trying to convince everyone it’s a serious movie.
