14 Stills from Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law
July 10, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I posted a trailer the other day for "Sherlock Holmes," due in theaters on Dec. 25, 2009 (watch the trailer here). I’m pretty psyched about this movie, not only because of Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, but also because it looks like a stylish film with a good blend of action, drama, comedy, crime and mystery. Hope I’m right!
Here are 14 stills from the movie that are making me even more geeked for it!
Robert Downey, Jr. in Sherlock Holmes trailer
July 8, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Can’t wait to see Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law in "Sherlock Holmes," in theaters Dec. 25, 2009 (that’s a new date – it was originally Nov. 20).
Downey, Jr. plays the legendary detective, while Law stars as his trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, a woman who has a tempestuous relationship with Holmes. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood, and Kelly Reilly will play Watson’s love interest, Mary.
But mostly, It’s all about RDJ for me. Thanks to MTV for the trailer below. Looks awesome!

Film Gecko: 16 Movies I Can’t Wait to See in 2009
March 4, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
There are some fantastic movies coming up in 2009, and while you never know how a movie will fare until you actually see it, I’ve picked out 16 movies that I think will knock us out with their awesomeness. See if you agree, and add your own in the comments!
1. Watchmen (March 6). “Who watches the Watchmen?” That’s the question in this graphic-novel-turned-movie directed by Zach Snyder. Vigilantes, murders, superheroes, and lots of good and bad karma populate this movie, along with stars Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jackie Earle Haley. [Trailer] [Film Gecko Links] [Official Site]
2. Sunshine Cleaning (March 13). This probably won’t hit all the mainstream theaters, but it looks like a quirky film that will hit all the right notes. Amy Adams is a single mom who, along with her slacker sister (Emily Blunt) starts a crime-scene cleanup biz as a way out of their dead-end lives. Alan Arkin plays the doting dad in this dramedy that scored big at Sundance last year. [Official Site]
3. Knowing (March 20). Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne star in this latest movie about number puzzles. Cage plays an MIT professor investigating a mysterious sequence of digits unearthed in a time capsule. Oh, and the numbers foretell tragic events, like a jet crashing on a freeway. [Official Site]
Warner Bros. Pictures 2009 Film Preview
January 6, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Here’s the Warner Bros. 2009 Film Preview. And woohoo that "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" will finally hit theaters on July 17, 2009. "The Dark Knight" hits theaters — AGAIN! Zac Efron gets a chance to be young again in "17 Again" (uh, haven’t we seen that plotline in about 20 movies?), John Connor comes back in "Terminator: Salvation," Robert Downey, Jr. plays Sherlock Holmes, and Clint Eastwood is nowhere near retiring. He begins AND ends 2009 with new movies. Check out the lineup:

Drama. Clint Eastwood stars in "Gran Torino," marking his first film role since his Oscar®-winning "Million Dollar Baby." Eastwood plays retired auto worker Walt Kowalski, an iron-willed veteran living in a changing world, who is forced by his immigrant neighbors to confront his own long-held prejudices. The people he once called his neighbors have all moved or passed away, replaced by Hmong immigrants, from Southeast Asia, he despises. Resentful of virtually everything and everyone he sees, Walt is just waiting out the rest of his life…until the night his teenage neighbor Thao tries to steal his prized `72 Gran Torino, under pressure from Hmong gang-bangers. But Walt stands in the way of both the heist and the gang, making him the reluctant hero of the neighborhood-especially to Thao’s mother and older sister, Sue, who insist that Thao work for Walt as a way to make amends. Though he initially wants nothing to do with these people, Walt eventually gives in and puts the boy to work, setting into motion an unlikely friendship that will change both their lives.
This film has been rated R by the MPAA for language throughout and some violence.

"New Moon" Gets a Release Date!
December 16, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
“New Moon” has a release date! The sequel to “Twilight” is heading to theaters Nov. 20, 2009.
On that same day, it’ll be up against Warner Bros.’ “Sherlock Holmes,” starring Robert Downey, Jr., Sony’s “Planet 51,” and MGM’s untitled “Three Stooges” project. That doesn’t seem so daunting, not that it would matter.
A story in Variety says the “New Moon” folks are looking to replicate their box office success by premiering the next movie on a similar date as “Twilight.” Really, though, I don’t think it matters when “New Moon” premieres. If the movie aired only one time at 2 a.m., theaters would be packed with fans.
The film franchise most associated with Thanksgiving is Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter.” But there are only three films left in that series, with just one bowing over Thanksgiving, in 2010.
So with three upcoming movies in the “Twilight” franchise, I’m guessing they’ll take over that Thanksgiving release date.
Chris Weitz recently signed to direct “New Moon,” taking over from “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke.
