What’s this? A Robert Pattinson movie we haven’t heard about? Yes, it’s true. “The Haunted Airman” premieres on DVD next Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009.
It’s a ghost story set during World War II, in which Pattinson plays a wounded Royal Air Force pilot tormented by psychological horrors until it drives him mad. Based on the 1948 novel “The Haunting of Toby Jugg” by Dennis Wheatley, it also stars Julian Sands and Rachael Stirling.
The Inside Story: “The Haunted Airman” was filmed five years ago in the U.K., and was one of Pattinson’s first paid acting jobs. The 68-minute film aired on BBC television in October 2006 – two years before “Twilight” was released in theaters.
From the film’s press release: “Flight Lieutenant Toby Jugg, confined to a wheelchair after being wounded in combat, arrives at a remote mansion in Wales to recuperate. Suffering terrible nightmares and visions, he suspects the methods of his psychiatrist, Dr. Hal Burns (Sands). Though his beautiful aunt Julia (Stirling) seems to be the only person he can trust, circumstances arise that cause him to doubt even her intentions. Is the lieutenant the victim of an eerie paranormal haunting, or a cruel conspiracy tied to his past?”
Here’s the trailer … it’s rated R, so not exactly teeny-bopper material …
